About Urdu Calendar
Urdu Calendar brings together three things Urdu speakers look for in one place: today's date on the Hijri calendar written in Nastaliq script, live prayer times, and a small daily dose of classical Urdu poetry.
Two calendars, one page
Every date on this site is shown in both the Hijri and Gregorian systems, since most Urdu-speaking communities move between the two daily. Toggle Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals (۱۲۳) on or off to read dates the way you're used to.
Sher of the Day
Each day features a couplet from a classical Urdu poet — Ghalib, Iqbal, or Mir — shown in the original script with a transliteration and a plain-language translation, for readers at any stage of learning Urdu.
Beyond religious dates
Urdu culture is bigger than any one calendar. Alongside Islamic observances like Ramadan and Eid, we also mark dates significant to Urdu literary history, such as Iqbal Day and Ghalib's Urs.
Accuracy
Hijri dates are calculated using the tabular Islamic calendar, a fixed mathematical method rather than moon sighting, so they can differ by a day from your local mosque's announcement. See our disclaimer for details.
Part of the Daily Calendar network
Urdu Calendar is one of a small family of calendar sites, each built for a different community's needs.
